A CLASSY BROAD RELEASES ON MARCH 5TH ON DIGITAL HD

ACB-Poster-Web-1080x1600.jpg

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Life of Marcia Nasatir, Hollywood Legend & First Woman VP of Production, is Chronicled in New Documentary Coming To Digital HD March 5th

A CLASSY BROAD:
MARCIA'S ADVENTURES IN HOLLYWOOD

Los Angeles, CA  (Feb 24, 2019) From director Anne Goursaud comes the amazing story of the woman who broke through corporate Hollywood’s glass ceiling in A CLASSY BROAD: MARCIA'S ADVENTURES IN HOLLYWOOD. The trailblazing executive’s story, as told mainly in her own fiery voice, comes to Digital HD March 5th, with a special weeklong theatrical engagement at L.A.’s Laemmle Music Hall— in conjunction with International Women’s Day— starting March 8th through the 14th.

At a time when gender inequality seems to be at the forefront in Hollywood, Marcia Nasatir’s story is one fueled by reservoirs of feminism and movie palace intrigue. Director Anne Goursaud, known for her editing work in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, walks viewers through how Marcia’s passion for storytelling led her to work in publishing and ultimately out West in film, eventually becoming VP of Production at United Artists. An achievement no other woman before her had ever accomplished.

Nasatir’s legendary career as an executive began in 1970s when she was recruited by Mike Medavoy at UA as story editor, a position she negotiated into a VP title, paving the way for women to achieve this executive status quo within a male-dominated movie industry.  While at there, Nasatir championed Rocky, Carrie, Apocalypse Now, and One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. She later joined Johnny Carson's production company and fought to produce The Big Chill, which garnered three Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Glenn Close) and Best Screenplay. As Marcia Nasatir Productions, she independently produced the Vietnam drama, Hamburger Hill, and Ironweed starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep.

Now at 92 years old, Marcia is an active member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and serves on the Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee. Her story, entertaining as it is inspiring, will hopefully motivate a whole new generation of corporate destined women who refuse to be hindered by the status quo.

Marcia Nasatir & Anne Goursaud are thrilled to be joining the Austrian American Short Film Festival as Jury Members for their 2018 festival held in New York City, each hosting an educational masterclass with an official screening of A CLASSY BROAD set for March 28th.

The Austrian American Short Film Festival (AASFF) is the first of its kind bilateral festival featuring short films in all forms and genres by promising young artists and filmmakers from both Austria and the US. Taking place for the third year in a row, the festival is again presented by and taking place at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York City (ACFNY). Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 9.45.12 AM.png

A Classy Broad celebrates our INTERNATIONAL DEBUT as an Official Selection at the 39th Moscow International Film Festival with two screenings of our documentary on June 26th and 27th.

As part of the festival, our director and Hollywood editor Anne Goursaud will be speaking in a webinar for Moscow Film School on July 3rd, covering the following:

  • As a French woman becoming a director in Hollywood: I started my first big break as I was engaged in directing feature films and, finally, documentary films
  • EDITING OF FUNCTIONAL FILMS: reading the script, the first meeting with the director, watching dailies, from the first to the final installation
  • FUNCTION director-mounting in HOLLYWOOD
  • WHAT DIFFICULTIES IN THE director-INSTALLATION FOR WOMEN
  • What are the differences MOUNTING feature films and documentaries.

History of Moscow International Film Festival

The Moscow International Film Festival is one of the oldest in the world. For the first time it was held in 1935 with Sergei Eisenstein as chairman of the Jury but the Festival history is usually traced back to 1959 when it became a regular event. It is noteworthy that the Festival was reborn in the 1960s during the so called “period of thaw”, when film industry experienced an influx of filmmakers of a new generation whose spiritual experience was shaped by the great victory over fascism. In 1959 the opening ceremony of the first “thaw” Festival was held in the grand Palace of Sports in Luzhniki,  Moscow. Chronologically this event coincided with more than the renunciation of the totalitarian path by the leaders of the country, which had only recently been cut off from the West by the Iron Curtain.

In the early 1960s Russian cinema alongside world cinema experienced a period of renewal; competition and out-of-competition programs  of the MIFF featured the names of foreign filmmakers who re-invented the very notion of cinema in their works, who renounced classical forms, rejected acknowledged classical masters. And incidentally, sometimes they made use of the practices of “renunciation” tested by Soviet filmmakers of the 1920s. It goes without saying that not all the innovators whose works overwhelmed the Cannes and Venice in the 1960s found their way to the Moscow festival venues, but MIFF programs of the early 1960s carried the names of Federico Fellini, Valerio Zurlini, Kaneto Shindo. The Festival was attended by well-known stars of the time like Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Finch, Toshiro Mifune, Richard Burton, Anna Karina, Simone Signoret, Jean Marais, Yves Montand. Among the Festival guests were numerous film classics who used the new opportunity to learn about the country which had just lifted the veil off its cultural life.

San Antonio/LA Soiree - SA Film Festival

This past Sunday, Marcia hosted a SA/LA Soiree for Executive Director and Founder of the San Antonio Film Festival, Adam Rocha, along with his A-list team - his wife Susan and best friend Martin - during their trip to Los Angeles. Adam was in town scouting for studio films, independent features, panelists and experts to attend the 23rd annual film festival in San Antonio.

Last year, A Classy Broad was an official selection of the San Antonio Film Festival, and Rocha awarded Nasatir with a Lifetime Achievement Award, being a native San Antonian and glass ceiling breaker.

We were thrilled to return the favor and introduce Adam to notable Hollywood movers and shakers to attract more attention to South Texas' LARGEST Film Festival.

This year's festival will be held August 1-6th and word on the street is that there will be a new award given out to an outstanding female filmmaker who strives to break glass ceilings. That award will be The Mogulette - The Marcia Nasatir Award.

Washington Jewish Film Festival

Marcia Nasatir had hoped to run into President Trump while in our nation's capital...but instead she made new friends at the Washington Jewish Film Festival.

Director Anne Goursaud and our Classy Broad, Marcia Nasatir attended both screenings on May 20th at Bethesda Row Cinema and on May 21st at E. Street Cinema and dazzled the audience during both Q&A's -- they even managed to get in a bit of sightseeing.... although the current administration was nowhere to be found :)

Women Who Work: Roundtable Video Shoot

Marcia Nasatir hosted a Women Who Work brunch for ladies in the workforce to discuss their careers and how their role as a woman has played out within their professions. This experimental video shoot, shot by our Classy Broad Director of Cinematography Shea William Vanderpoort, assisted by Duran Castro, will be edited and released to continue the conversation. Nasatir was overwhelmed with a guest list consisting of award-winning producers, composers, directors, writers and business savvy professionals from all walks of life. From age 15 to age 91, every generation was represented and documented in this exciting social project.

Stay tuned for debut of the first roundtable and let us know if you'd like to be on the guest list for an upcoming shoot. Thank you to everyone who participated, was inspired and has requested we continue this classy conversation...

Director Anne Goursaud's Short Story Published on Hollywood Dementia

You may or may not have known that the incredibly talented Anne Goursaud is not only a director, editor and producer but also an accomplished writer. Dive into her latest published piece on Nikki Finke's Hollywood Dementia, called KEEP THE GOOD PIECES

Set in Hollywood, KEEP THE GOOD PIECES, chronicles Claire's big break as a female editor, working to cut a film by one of the most legendary directors of all-time.

Take a read... you may notice a little ACB cameo in this great piece of fiction. Reminds us of Oscar Wilde's famous quote, "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life." Do you agree?

BTS: Marcia in 35MM

Our camera operator, Duran Castro, is an extremely talented photographer (of course) and took some incredible BTS images in 35MM of our star, Marcia Nasatir, while on set filming, A CLASSY BROAD. These photos are so incredibly beautiful and cinematic, we just had to share.

Perhaps you'll recognize the scenes these shots came from... remember the breaking of the breads for Thanksgiving?

We can't thank Duran enough for these gorgeous images from Marcia's close-up!

A CLASSY BROAD'S Awesome Pecan Recipe

If you saw A CLASSY BROAD, then you are probably dying to try Marcia's FAMOUS Pecans (well they were her sister Rose's recipe first).

PECANS ARE THE NEW POPCORN!

Try some today when you are watching your favorite film...we hope that film will be A CLASSY BROAD - Marcia's Adventures in Hollywood! Enjoy!

A CLASSY BROAD'S AWESOME PECANS

Roast 1 lb. (about 3 cups) pecan halves for 15 minutes in 300-325 oven. In the meantime, spread wax paper on a cookie sheet or a large wooden surface.

Next, in a heavy saucepan:
Mix 1 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
Add 1/2 cup water and mix well.

Cook over medium high heat to 238 degrees. Or if you don't have candy thermometer, you can drop a small amount into cold water and use your fingers to form a soft ball.

Remove from heat. stir with wooden spoon and add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Be sure it is well-mixed.

Put the roasted pecans in a large bowl. Add the syrup, mix well. Pour out onto waxed paper. Separate the pecans with two forks and let them cool.

Store in any kind of container. Or can be left in candy dish. Stays fresh and tasty for a long time.

Final note: this recipe can be doubled and tripled.
